High temp powder coat is rated to 1200°. To answer your question, I have no idea for sure but I would have guessed not likely for long but then I found this post on another forum.

"#1 - How hot does the surface of the firebox actually get during a smoke? Well after three hours of burning logs and the inside pit temp at about 250 degrees at the center line along the top of the firebox never got above 565 degrees. The hot plate was 375 degrees and the sides and bottom were 425-455 degrees as was the opposite end of the firebox by the wood storage rack. The outside of the main was about 15 degrees cooler than the thermo was reading. "

So maybe it will. But I wouldn't be surprised if I will need some touch up paint in the future.

It's gonna last a lot longer than high heat paint...

      • Cool, can't wait to see the results. I love powder coat for a lot of applications, hope this one turns out great!

        • I am interested in the powdercoat as well. I would make sure they mask off the inside of the firebox to avoid overspray inside. The plasticky smell of burning/melting powdercoat is pretty strong. What is your plan to season the smoker?

First fire up seasoning will go pretty much like the Lang recommendations.
            https://youtu.be/QqPCjQubKzA

            Summarized . . .
Spray all inside surfaces with Pam or a good oil
            Build a fire
When it gets to 300°, mist the insides with water to make steam.
Bring temp back up to 300°
Close chimney damper till it starts to smoke.
Let the smoker make smoke for an hour or two. Keep temps around 300°

First cook seasoning . . . not sure yet. Depends on how comfortable I'm feeling with temp management. Maybe cover the grates with some thick cut bacon and let all that fat drip and sizzle. Or a couple of pork shoulders.

                    • Braces for the rack are welded on and the hole is drilled for the steering axle pivot point to fit into.

Cap and grease zerk for the steering axle pivot point.

                          Don't know.

One of my coworkers was in the shop last week and I was showing it to him. He says, "So are you going to sell it when it's done?"

Hell no!! I'm going to cook on it.
