Lived in Okinawa for a year, there used to be yakitori stands all over. Mamasan's used to cook on small grills like that. Loved yakitori, especially around midnight!! It was around $3 for like a dozen skewers. They would cut the chicken into long strips and skewer that way instead of chunks.

      Great grill, great food!
I've spent close to a third of my life in Southeast Asia and I'd live there tomorrow forever if I could make a living at it.
If you want a realy good chargrilled for like 2 or 3 steaks or a bunch of sqewers or even prawns or steak I highly recommend a weber go anywhere.
Once you've got one find an old gasser plate and cut it down to fit, you need to cut it so you can take the ends out or 2 middle bars for the lid to fit but for quick food that likes a sear they are legendary, with a ci grate.
I got my GA for 10 bucks and the cast grate for free

My wife is from Fukuoka, Japan. I haven' been to Okinawa yet. When we go to visit I spend the majority of the time eating everything I can get my hands on. I'm the Yakitori king as I can spot a izakaya from a 100 yards. LOL

I know I haven't made the "proper" Yakitori but it's just easier to cut chunks and my daughter loves it this way so I just roll with it.

Where at did you live? I'd move to Japan in a minute if I could make a living there. I want to visit Vietnam the next time we travel that way.

I've got 4 or 5 different grills and a few smokers in my collection. I know what you mean about webers they are awesome. I like using this Lodge for the yakitori as I can just pack out the grill with the right amount and use less charcoal in a confined space.

Okinawa is a tropical paradise! If you ever get the chance, you should visit. Especially if you scuba! Have you ever had taco, rice, & cheese? For some reason that was popular on Oki. Also lived yakisoba. Different there than anywhere else I've had a needle dish like that. I would love to go back for a month!
