My 18 is 2" difference than the grill. What is the difference in your 24" We may be on the way to a formula that can be used in construction. By god Watson I think we may be on to something.

Might be governed by the distance from the grill to the tuning plate.

Are they really that critical after you lower the exhaust down to the grill? If you have one plate directing it down.

The reason I ask is that I have a couple of racks that mount down lower and I would be able to do an upright big bird. I'd probably have to spin it a few times, but it should work, right?

Depends on your side to side temp differential -- and if it bothers you or not.

Depending on what you are cooking, it probably doesn't matter. If you're doing a bird in the middle it won't make much difference.

If you've got the racks covered from one end to the other with ribs, if one side is hotter than the other it may be a problem. Some folks rotate anyway so probably not a big deal.

Your call. Personally... I'm a picky bastage and that fugger's gonna be 15 degrees or so end to end. Then you'll have less to worry yer pretty head over. Unless the wife has a theory.

                            Bend it over.

Only diff I ever notice is no grill marks. Makes a nice presentation I suppose.
